YOU RECENTLY EMBARKED ON A PRETTY EPIC ADVENTURE, TELL US ABOUT THAT.

Yep, after a couple years in management consulting, I did a one-eighty and spent last summer driving around America on two-lane roads. I ended up traveling for 80 days and covered 17,000 miles. Wool&Prince hooked me up with a T-shirt prototype to test during the trip.

THAT'S AWESOME. WHAT WAS THE THOUGHT PROCESS LIKE? DID PEOPLE THINK YOU WERE NUTS?

I knew consulting wasn't for me after the first few months, but it took me another year and a half to get the courage to leave. I was getting paid a lot, and I had friends at work who were awesome. Those are hard things to give up. Once I fully accepted that I never woke up excited for work, it was easier to leave.
As for hitting the road, it’s a crazy and euphoric feeling to embark on a trip with no plans and no idea when you’ll be back home. After a couple of months, though, I found out that wonder is a finite resource. By the end of my trip I was making a concerted effort to appreciate things that would have had me beyond psyched earlier in the trip. That’s when I knew it was time to go home.
Coming back to New York City after driving through mostly empty space for days on end was bizarre. But I also had a brand new appreciation for the city.

WHAT ARE YOUR THREE FAVORITE PLACES FROM THE ROAD TRIP?

It's hard to narrow it down to just three. If I had to pick, I'd first go with Glacier National Park in Northwestern Montana. Its jagged purple mountains and turquoise lakes are beautiful. Second, Jackson, Wyoming, which might be the best situated town in America. It’s at the foot of the Teton Range, close to Yellowstone, and just over the border from Idaho. Finally, I would have to say Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area. It's a thin strip of land on the Tennessee-Kentucky border that sits between the Cumberland and Tennessee rivers.

GO-TO ROAD TRIP SONG?

“Thrasher” by Neil Young was a huge inspiration for my trip. It’s one of the most epic roadsongs ever written. Music sets the mood—I often started out in the mornings by putting on“Cruise” by Florida-Georgia Line. I also blasted Springsteen’s “Born to Run” to get pumped for long stretches.

AND NOW THAT YOU'RE BACK IN THE CITY, WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO THESE DAYS?

I love old blues and country from the 1950’s. I’m also really into blues-revival stuff like the Rolling Stones and Eric Clapton. Neil Young is also one of my favorites. When it comes to more recent bands, I’m into Phosphorescent, The Head and the Heart, Dawes, and Sufjan Stevens. One of my guilty pleasures is top 100 country music—Jason Aldean, Eric Church, and Florida-Georgia Line.

EVEN AFTER 17,000 MILES, YOU MANAGED TO LAND BACK IN NEW YORK CITY WHAT ARE YOU DOING THESE DAYS?

I’m working at a digital entertainment studio called Defy Media. I do corporate strategy. I spend a lot of time analyzing new business opportunities, staying current on the evolving internet media industry, and looking at traffic on our web and YouTube properties (we work with Break.com and Smosh).

FAVORITE BOOK?

Tolstoy’s War and Peace. Patti Smith’s memoir Just Kids is up there, too.

WHAT THREE THINGS CAN’T YOU LIVE WITHOUT?

My road bike: Riding to and from work is infinitely better than taking the subway. And biking around New York is often faster than cabs or the subway anyway.
My guitar: I try to play everyday… my poor roommates.
My journal: I write in a journal just about everyday. It helps clear my head, organize my thoughts.

 WHAT'S THE NEXT ADVENTURE?

Moving in with my girlfriend later this summer. We've been together for four-and-a-half years.I have lived exclusively with big groups of guys ever since I went to college.

HOW'D YOUR GEAR HOLD UP?

I was wearing the Wear-More, Wash-Less T-shirt and All-Season Shorts. The wool shirt is perfect for biking—super lightweight, soft, and doesn't hold onto moisture. Even as the day warmed up I was comfortable. The shorts are the perfect length and a lot more breathable than I expected for wool shorts.

Aaron is 5'11", 165 lbs, and wears a size M.
